Could be a purple foxglove. (Digitalis) http://eol.org/pages/38377/entries/36446284/overview If so, this is a good spotting for the Herbs & Spices - Source Plants mission if you would describe its medicinal uses (found in the link). It is used in heart medicine. However, it is also toxic. So, good that it can be used in medicine but very bad for cooking!
