Atlanticus sp.
39.4192, -81.3555
Field Notes
Description:
Very robust katydid, dissimilar to the usually angle-winged katydids I see. Reddish-brown, wings are covered by the pronotum. The large ovipositor indicates that this individual is a female.
Habitat:

Notes:
A quick search on BugGuide led me to the Shield-backed Katydids, and this one looks like a species of eastern shield-backed katydid. I have this specimen preserved in the lab, so I'll need to head back and try to key it out with some reference books. Found at Barbara A. Beiser Field Station.
