Awesome little smiley faces. Great series!
Yellow arrows... Now we've been humbled by the natural evolutionary process... :/
Hi Vic! Now that Rex has taken the time to identify this for you please can you add the common & scientific names in edit so this can come off of the unidentified list. Thanks!
especially like the third photo
Hi Vic. I can confirm that this is not Brown Marmorated Stink Bug Halyomorpha halys - and thank goodness. BTW - Superb pictures!
Those eggs are pretty cool!!!!! At first I thought they were beads.
Another link that looks too close for comfort... http://www.whatsthatbug.com/2010/07/23/newly-hatched-harlequin-stink-bugs-we-believe/
Wooow!!!!!! I love that!! Thanks for sharing.
I agree with argybee, maybe keep them for a while. Their adult forms or maybe some later instars of those bugs would make a clearer ID.
@Vic... I hope Little Rex is wrong with his suggested ID but just in case maybe you should contain those bugs if possible until an accurate ID is made. His suggestion looks awfully close and 'Shell Harbour' is a potential entry point for pests. Have a look at this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Brown_marmorated_stink_bug_eggs_hatched.jpg and compare to your pic#3.
Ooh... Well, at least they're not there. They look like quite a pest in the areas that have them. Oh well, my bad :3 Still, great photos! I can't help smiling back at those gleeful looking eggs! :D
@Little Rex... the "Brown Marmorated stink bug" is not in Australia. We are certainly worried about it getting here and guard carefully against that happening. I think you have got very close with your ID but not quite right. http://padil.gov.au/pests-and-diseases/Pest/Image/17531
These are some awesome eggs! They look like they're smiling :D
Very cute! They are nymphs of some sort of stink bug. In a web suggested above I have found a similar sighting: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ashe/1315829530/in/faves-tristanba/ The tiny triangles also show in those eggs so I think is only painted by Mother Nature :-)
Wow. They really look like painted. Amazing.
There's an Eggs f the World mission you could add this great spotting to here http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/8022274
Congratulations Vic!! This is a superb shot. After I decided you hadn't painted these faces yourself, I did a little hunt. I have some unresolved Shield Bugs (Pentatomidae) nymphs too. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/8183185 Best link I can find is http://www.flickr.com/photos/ashe/2317618137/in/faves-tristanba/ you can scroll along the photostream.
Hi Vic.. You must add ID what you know about organism. On internet you find anything as reference with picture search. Hope you start this way and find yourself correct IDs. Have nice journey of Life with Project Noah...!!
Thankyou Ashish... im still a little lost as to where to post :-))
Hi Vic I have changed ID and Category in favor of you.
Wow - amazing! Painted ping pong balls indeed :)
magical, now that I can see the picture!
I Favorited it first ,even before the picture has uploaded , Seems like it is taking ages!! But the idea of ping pong balls with smiles sounded appealing.......
