Field Notes

Description:

Common crocodilian of central America. It differs from the crocodile with it's larger head and eye, and lesser ridges on the back, as well as it's overall smaller size, reaching only about 7 feet or a little over 2 meters. This was a fairly large caimon

Habitat:

Rivers both fresh and brackish

Notes:

This was the first caiman of our trip. Shortly after we saw a croc too, which was the first and last of the Tortuguero area. We would later see many crocs on the Tarcoles river
