Field Notes

Description:

Jet black snake with bright yellow spot on each scale. Adults range from 3-5 feet in length. Diet consists of rodents, amphibians, snakes and lizards. A beautiful, non-venomous snake.

Habitat:

Found in wooded areas. Common in barns where mice are plentiful.

Notes:

This snake is capable of producing a foul-smelling musk when handled.
