Description:

Ubiquitous shrub in northeastern forests, but found as far west as Texas. Common in wetlands, but cannot be solely used as an indicator species. Easily identifiable in the winter by its "rattlesnake tail" raceme (picture).

Habitat:

Widespread in forests and swamps.
