Field Notes
Description:
An odd looking thing, featuring individual worm-like cream-coloured segments. The substrate on the tree was cracked and discoloured, but I'm unsure whether this was the result of the segments or something else. Not sure whether it's of insect or fungal origin...
Habitat:
Open Eucalypt forest. Mid-summer, but during a warm dry period. Positioned about head height - about 2.5 metres up an unidentified eucalypt.
Notes:
I first thought it might have been some sort of insect activity, but as it was quite high I was unable to get a close look at it - but I did notice that none of the creamy segments were moving. On looking at the photo I'm guessing it might actually be some sort of fungi or lichen. Any clues?
