Field Notes
Description:
The type of mushroom I found had a cap that was brownish-orange with the center being dark brown and indented. The cap was about 3 1/2 mm long. The cap was also wavy around the edges. If you looked underneath the cap, you would notice that the mushroom had many, close together, gills. The stalk of the mushroom was a light orange color. There was no collar attached to the stalk and the stalk was about 3 mm long. The cap had no stench and it was not slimy when you touched it.
The spore print of the mushroom was a creamy color.
Habitat:
I had found the mushroom on the edge of the woods near a beech tree in a small field. The mushroom was in a small group with its same type. The mushrooms were not very close together but there were many of them.
Notes:
When I went outside on the school campus in early November, I discovered mushrooms. The type mushroom I found had a cap that was brownish-orange with the center being dark brown and indented. The cap was about 3 1/2 mm long. The cap was also wavy around the edges. If you looked underneath the cap you would notice that the mushroom had many, close together, gills. The stalk of the mushroom was a light orange color. There was no collar attached to the stalk and the stalk was about 3 mm long. The cap had no stench and it was not slimy when you touched it.
The spore print of the mushroom was a creamy color. To discover the spore print color I cut off the cap and placed it on white and black pieces of paper. Then I let the cap sit on the pieces of paper over the night. When I arrived back in school in the science classroom,I noticed the spore print had shown.
I had found the mushroom on the edge of the woods near a beech tree in a small field. The mushroom was in a small group with its same type. The mushrooms were not very close together but there were many of them.I believe the mushroom I found is part of the milk cap family because these characteristics match the major milk cap characteristics.
