Description:
leafcutter ants can strip ornamental plantings of their leaves, as they gather material which they take back to their nests used in the cultivation of fungus for food. They often wear trails in lawns as they follow the same paths day inn and day out. The last photo is of their paths

We saw these all over Costa Rica. In some places, trees trunks are ringed with lime to prevent ants from climbing trunks
