Starlings are amazing! I had the good fortune of spotting them, maybe two months ago, Flocks of them. Beautiful, social. But i did not here them sing as melodiously as the red winged black birds. We have lots of beautiful males right now and they love to be heard and they love to sing. i am smitten !! I haven't noticed the Brewers Blackbirds singing yet. They love to flock together ,but they were rather quite.
beautiful..are they gregarious like the starlings?
Your photography skills are really outstanding!! I am in the photography club at school and your work is very good!! Yes I only have had a few sightings because its winter. The mushrooms are gone and some flowers are dead from the frost we had recently.
@pyoung,not having the sun helps my limited kind of camera! Have you uploaded any recently? i will visit your profile.
Thank you Emma! I see you have been taking some beautiful photos!! :)
Hi, Emma! Ive been taking my Holiday break from school. "I should put my email contacts up on my profile", so we can keep in touch!! I missed talking with you!!
Thnx Pyoung. Where have you been?
Thank, Emma. :') No, to enlarge a photo, you view in fullscreen and then right click and 'Open image in new tab'
@ Liam, the link which you provided,is that a special feature you have?
Yes, that's the stalk. If you enlarge the image, you can make out a supercilium and a heavily streaked breast. http://lh3.ggpht.com/by3jtwtLRKsoCrtQheMSFymD78OKmtQeenrfPo5yw9jZUq7bXVVnPF8ynMPyjKYQuXzEkCzGEnp3NORE2jKx=s1200
The third stalk seems to be the middle one with two on either side. Is it the splash of red that makes you say that?
It is the bird sitting on the bottom of the third stalk on the left.
@ Liam, that truly is amazing that you could pick out the female black winged black bird!! Where is that bird sitting?.
All are Brewer's Blackbirds (Euphagus cyanocephalus), with one female Red-winged Blackbird (Agelaius phoeniceus) thrown in the mix.
Karen , I just followed up on your turtle mystery. Congraulations for solving it!
@ Karen thanks! Happy New Year! So who was it ,the Raccoon or the hawk?
they could be brewers blackbirds. I will go tomorrow and have a closer look.
@ Gordon,if they are cowbirds, then no body is going to be more thrilled than I am.
I wonder if these are one of the cowbirds. It's a bit hard to tell from this photo, but they have the right silhouette. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cowbird for more information.
