In the vast savanna of Ugandan National Parks, they burn huge expanses of grassland every year before the rains so the new tender grass shoots are easily available to the animals. We travelled through miles and miles of burnt landscape in the Queen Elizabeth N.P. On one side of the road the land was burnt, the other side long dry grass still stood, waiting its turn. In many places the tender green shoots were already visible in the burnt soil.
