Alpine Azalea
Loiseleuria procumbens
49.0425, -65.9568
Field Notes
Description:
Small and delicate flowers, very close to the ground and rocks.
Habitat:
These flowers are usually found in subarctic climates of the northern hemisphere. It is uncommon to find some in a much lower latitude but the climate at the very top of Mount Jacques-Cartier is subarctic (as it is the second highest peak in the province of Quebec). It makes toundra vegetation possible in the area as well as animals found more up north (like the caribou).
