Field Notes

Description:

In dutch the genus Sphecodes is also called 'blood bees'. They are a group of red colored bees which parasite host- specific on other solitary bees like Andrena, Lasioglossum, Halictus and Colletes. Sphecodes species are very difficult to tell apart unless you put them under a microscope, hence this iamge will have to remain labelled as 'species'
