Field Notes

Notes:

I'm having trouble confirming that this is a green frog, because it is nearly all black. Is there a subspecies of green frogs that are black? Shape and behavior indicate it's green frog.

Per the Michigan DNR site cited above...."A large green, brown, or olive frog, 2 1/2 to 4 inches long. "
Yes the green frog can actually be brown, green or even look black.
Apple, I don't know frogs. This one is clearly all dark or nearly black. Is that a phase of a green frog or something else?
The green frog is similar to the bullfrog but the green frog has a fold of skin from the ear down the back...which this one appears to have.
It's likley to be a green frog....but this site might help you decide the exact species: http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,1607,7-153-10370_12145_12201-60117--,00.html
