Field Notes

Description:

Several of these were put in our pond by local kids who said they got them from a river some years ago. 3 of this type have survived and grown to some 6 inches long. They would not eat goldfish food so they got nothing. Another type grabbed all the worms we threw in.

It looks like Cichlidae there is many different ones around the world and they are fresh water. I agree whit Palaimon Its hard to ID whit this photo.
We have this kind of fishes also in germany. Free living in our lakes and slowly rivers. I think its very difficult to Id without a picture from the side. Maybe you can rent a underwatercamera :-)

Yes, and they are still there, getting bigger, eating I know not what, perhaps dragonfly larvae.
