Field Notes

Description:

Black/brown scallop stripes design on back, red crescent at nap of neck, brown/orangish tinting above/around eyes, black 'mustache'

Notes:

I found this bird sitting on center yellow line of road, evidently injured or sick. I lifted him off the road and placed him in the grass on the side of the road. He did not seem to be in pain and I saw no blood or other obvious sign of injury. The next day, he was gone. I am hopeful he recovered and flew off.
