Field Notes

Description:

The nest is made of mud pellets. The chicks seem to have left the nest but were still being fed by the parent birds.

Habitat:

On the rafters of the arcade opposite the Aquarium on the banks of Loch Lomond. The ceiling had spikes...it was apparent that the shopkeepers wanted to keep the birds out (gulls and crows) but at least one couple made a beautiful mud pellet nest between two electricity boxes of some kind.

Notes:

My mind boggles when I think of the amount of effort involved in collecting the mud and making the nest pellet by pellet.
