Field Notes

Description:

A tiny beetle about 3 mm long with black slightly pitted elytra. Appeared to have a slight fuzz but this could be dust !.
Antenna appeared short with a club-end ?
Underside of abdomen was a honey brown

(the aussie 5 cent coin is the same size as a nickel)

Notes:

Found him scuttling across the garden bench. Very fast moving and tried to fly away when disturbed. had him on his back for just a few seconds.
He's the smallest beetle I've ever seen - it's a pity I could not wipe him down for the pics !!

Could someone help me with an ID, please ?...martinl ?

you are very welcome Leuba!
I note that it was martinl who did the initial identification - so, thanks martinl.
that was quick - thank you Misako. I think it looks very much like your beetle and I am glad it's a furry elytra and not dust ! Must check-up on the distribution...
It might be Scymnus sp. I had a similar spotting: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/7519191
