Field Notes

Description:

with a green head and red breast and back, the green heron is the smallest of the herons

Habitat:

In a tree next to the river(and the dining area)

Notes:

I watched this little bird for two days. She appeared not to leave the nest ever, although she certainly had opportunity to do so unnoticed between our meals. It was a doubly cool spotting since my mom had once had nesting green herons in the yard behind her in Oregon

We saw another one much later in our trip on the Tarcoles river. They really are an attractive little bird, and not easily photographed.
my fav bird! Cool that you found it in it's nest....the only one I ever saw was combing the beach
