Field Notes

Description:

A small marsupial (40 cms long) with grey-brown coarse fur on its back and a pale belly. The snout is long and conical and ears, small and rounded. The tail is short and tapered.

Habitat:

Dry Sclerophyll forests

Notes:

Spotted this sweet little marsupial in a botanical garden in Victoria. The grounds are fenced to exclude foxes, feral cats and dogs. This has assisted with providing a safe haven for this endangered marsupial. The grounds are covered with holes dug out by these marsupials. It was such a pleasure to see them roaming and foraging quite freely!

Such lovely and timid little creatures. To many people this might look like some kind of rodent - they are nothing like that at all.
