Harvestman
Leiobunum vittatum
37.45, -77.58
Field Notes
Description:
Tentatively identified. I believe these are two members of the same species. One with a bright orange body, dark legs and eyes, the other with a brown body and darker marking on dorsal abdomen. Harvestmen are interesting members of the arachnids. They do not spin webs and have a broad fusion of head and thorax, so much so that it looks like one body part. Many species have very long, spindly legs. They are omnivorous but can be excellent hunters.
Habitat:
Temperate forest. Rockwood Park, Virginia.
