Description:

The northern flicker is the only woodpecker to feed on the ground, preferring ants and beetles. Male selects the nest site, taking up to 12 days to excavate. Female is the same as male except she lacks a black mustache.

Habitat:

Two northern flickers were spotted in a field at Blackwater Falls State Park in Davis Wva
