Description:
A medium sized, graceful antelope. Impala reaches some 80cm in height in shoulders, and has a long neck and a smooth short rufous-brown coat. Coat begins to pale toward lower flanks and belly, with underparts being whitish; there is a black-and-white pattern on buttocks . Ears and head also show the white and rufous-brown pattern. Male carry a wide-set and lyre shaped horns, that can grow up to 90 cm in length.
Habitat:
Impala favours open plains and sparse woodlands, and remain within the reach of water. In Nairobi NP, observed mainly in small herds, of some 10 to 20 animals.
