Field Notes

Description:

I think this is a ground spider. About 8mm body length, black with an oval yellow patch on the abdomen and a white line on the back half of the cephalothorax; legs are pale with the first segment being darker. This spider seems to have the same colour pattern as an abundant ant species in the area (picture #4), so I thought this might be a mimic. Any suggestions or additional info welcome.

Habitat:

Arid region around the Kennedy Range in Western Australia.
