Black Carpenter Ant
Camponotus pennsylvanicus
41.9439, -85.6325
Field Notes
Description:
The common black carpenter ant. These are a common household pest though fortunately, I had the pleasure of finding this one outside. This species is known to forage up to 100 yd. for food!
Habitat:
These guys live in houses and outdoors (thank goodness for that) and often times live inside trees (hence the "carpenter" portion of the name.)
Notes:
I found this at a camp a while ago, it was by far the best picture I took there.
