Description:

This hard gelatinus coat was on a species of Lily Pad in a wetland located in Northen Ontario. I assume it's some sort of adaptation, but for what and why? Can anyone explain this phenomena to me?

N.B. I was so absorbed by the jelly that I neglected to identify the species. I will update that later on this year.

I've seen many lily pads and never have they had jelly surrounding them, unless they were rotten. This is interesting when you find out the reason be sure to post an update!
