Field Notes

Description:

Small mushrooms approximately a half-inch in diameter. Rust/deep red on top surface with white gills. Stalk is same color as dorsal surface of cap. Any odor was overpowered by odor of substrate.

Habitat:

Found underneath Eastern Red Cedar trees growing on the ground in cedar, oak and hickory leaf litter. These appeared after 3 days of steady rain.

Notes:

Found individually and in groups of 3 to 6.
