Species ID Suggestions

Comments (1)

The family is Cantharidae. Although the photo is a bit small and the relevant characters are hardly visible, I assume that is is Rhagonycha fulva, an introduced species from Europe. R. fulva has become very abundant in the eastern half of North America and seems to be spreading westwards. If you have any photos in higher resolution, try to compare them to the pictures on Bugguide, or use the key here: http://www.biology.ualberta.ca/bsc/ejournal/ph_25/ph_25.pdf
