Description:

Pumpkins are edible. They are monoecious, having both male and female flowers on the same plant. The female flower is distinguished by the small ovary at the base of the petals. These bright and colorful flowers have extremely short life spans and may only open for as short a time as one day.

Notes:

Fried Pumpkin Blossoms

Ingredients:
2 Dozen Pumpkin Blossoms
5 Eggs
2 dozen Saltine or Club Crackers
Salt & Pepper to taste
Margarine or Vegetable Oil for frying

Instructions:
Crush crackers finely and place in a shallow bowl.
Add salt and pepper to taste.
Lightly beat eggs in a separate bowl.
Dredge pumpkin blossoms gently in egg batter, then into the cracker crumbs gently patting the crumbs onto the blossom on both sides.
Place into frying pan with margarine or oil and cook until lightly browned.
Remove from pan and place on a paper towel to drain.
