Field Notes

Description:

Ospreys are very large, distinctively shaped hawks. They are known for their distinct diet of live fish and their unique ability to dive underwater to catch their prey. They often hover briefly before diving, feet first, to grab a fish.

Habitat:

Ospreys are almost exclusively found over bodies of water ranging from lakes, ponds, and saltmarshes to coral reefs. A good indicator that an Osprey is nearby is their stick nests resting on open poles or dead trees, hanging over a body of water.
