Field Notes

Description:

This non-venomous snake is thought to be a coral snake mimic, and feeds primarily on frogs.

Habitat:

Central highlands, in a neighborhood surrounded by forests.

Notes:

This snake was spotted at night, chasing after a frog in a flooded ditch. My instinct said "don't touch!" so I quickly had my local host identify it for me.

This species can drop parts of its tail if molested by predators. Also known as "ringed glasstail."

I believe that's the common name assigned to it by my Panamanian contact. A casual Web search quickly produces this common name several times on different sites. It's a coral snake mimic and I definitely need to get more info listed.
