Field Notes

Description:

This was weird! A glob of white stuff that felt gelatinous. When I poked it with a stick, some yellowish stuff came out, sticking to it. It had a fresh spell, similar to a zucchini. Third image shows the location in relation to the roots (I already started poking it). The last image if of the area where I scraped it off.

Habitat:

Under leaves in the dirt. Its growth originated on the root of a dying Avocado tree. It had recently rained.

Notes:

Not a very exciting spotting for number 1,000 but it's interesting :)

Slime molds are not classified as fungi, Cindy. You might change it to category "other".

I think it is slime mold. Check out "white slime mold" pictures on Google Image. This certainly looks like some of them.

LOL, it sure is :) It was about 10 cm in diameter. After digging, I saw it was growing right on the Avocado root.

It is gross. But I like it! I have worked with molds and bacteria in the lab and I like disgusting microorganisms! By the way, congratulations for your 1000th spotting.

that's gross !!! :) seriously that's weird. looks fungi, but have no idea. maybe young specimen, or because it's a bit big (would it be smaller,would it look more likely growing on this stick) for the little stick under it,maybe something moving over the stick. Then would we be again at "slime molds" !! hope you find some clues. good luck
