Field Notes

Description:

The birds have the characteristic "booby" body build. They are white with black markings on the edges of the wings. Feet are a dull gray (unlike the blue of the blue-footed booby or the red of the red-footed booby). Generally has a fairly bright orange beak with a black mask around the nares and eyes.

Habitat:

Cliff tops of Genovesa Island in the Galapagos. The birds we saw were nesting, and many of them were on the ground tending to chicks. Nests are created on the ground among rocks, sticks, etc. and varied from being under low shrubby cover to being completely out in the open.

Notes:

Formerly regarded as a subspecies of the Masked Booby.
