Field Notes

Description:

The lilac-breasted roller is 35-45 inches tall. Their plumage is very brightly colored. The breast is purple, the belly pale blue. Head and neck are green to the upper beak and pulls over the eyes a white streak. The face is reddish, the wings more brownish. The underside of the wings should be bright blue.

Habitat:

The lilac-breasted roller is to be found in East Africa from Ethiopia via Somalia, Kenya to northern South Africa, to the west of the Atlantic coast of Angola and Namibia inland. Living in savannah, open scrubland and cultivated land.
