Field Notes

Description:

Small mammal with spines colored white, black and brown covering it's neck, back, sides and rear. It has small, round ears, a long snout and short legs and tail. Its underside is soft and full of short, smooth hairs. It uses the spines as a defense with its ability to roll into a tight ball, making the spines point outwards. It also makes a noise while jerking its body to stab toward the threat. This animal is Wildlife with Innovative Defenses!

Habitat:

This is my cousin's pet

Notes:

Hedgehogs are illegal in the entire state of California. California has a law that deems all animals not specifically listed as legal under State law as being illegal by default. Until such time as California's Department of Fish and Game is willing to consider hedgehogs for legal status, they will continue to be considered contraband pets and may be confiscated and either moved out of state or destroyed.

I see it too. Those look like two sharp teeth! This little one was very jumpy and would curl up and jab toward you with the spines at any loud noise or quick movement.
What a perfect little model! Kinda looks like a bat in the 4th photo...
Ouch Mike16! That would be a very unpleasant experience :) Thank you zhabiz. We all fell in love with this one!
It is so cute. I just fell in love with it! I wish I had a baby hedgehog exactly like this.
I had one of these little guys try to crawl into my sleeping bag with me this summer in Croatia.
Thanks Karen! It was soooo cute. This little guy wouldn't stop moving around. It was peaking out the back of my fathers arm when I shot that one.
Adorable! I love the second photo of it just peeking out at you!
