Lovely shot and a great collection of butterflies pamsai! Welcome to Project Noah.
This spectacular group of butterflies, including the famous monarch, or wanderer are noted for the 'sex brand', a black dot on the hindwing of only the males. This dot is a gland that produces a phermone, a fragrant hormone used to stimulate an amorous response in the female. The tip of his abdomen contains a retractable brush organ that reaches this 'sex brand' gland, picks up the phermone and scatters it into the spring air.
