Description:
The purplish-black breeding male has reflective metallic feathers that glisten in the sun. The overall yellow-brown female is drab in comparison. Males out of breeding season wear an eclipse plumage which is like the female's but with a dark blue throat stripe.
The male purple sunbird perches on the top branch of a tree and delivers repetitions of a sharp chirp, followed by a loud song . This species also known to defend its territory by singing and chasing intruders .
Habitat:
Open forests, scrub, towns and cities.
