Field Notes

Description:

The breeding male is scarlet apart from his black face, belly and wings and brown tail. The non-breeding male is yellow-brown, streaked above and shading to whitish below.

about 10 - 12 cm

Habitat:

Aqua Terra Zoo Vienna
in the wilde: Found at the tropical Africa from Senegal to Sudan and south to Angola and Tanzania, especially in tall grassland and often near water.

Whatever it is, we don't grow them in Ohio! Great shot all jokes aside.
I thought the color was too yellow for Euplectes hordeaceus, but I am colorblind. Your call.
