Description:
A pretty common sight, bracken communities are a great example of succession plants - if a tree falls in the forest opening a gap on the forest floor, bracken will often opportunistically set up camp in the gap, enjoying the new light through the canopy. The bracken then creates a safe shaded environment for new long-living forest trees to seed and grow into the exposed canopy.
Habitat:
Moist areas of eucalypt forest and rainforests. As ferns need water for reproduction, you'll inevitably find them in the moister parts of forests, near watercourses or drainage lines.
