Field Notes

Description:

This snake is brown and has a light stripe running along each side, just above the belly. There may be another faint stripe down the center of the back. The scales are keeled, the belly is plain white or dull yellow with occasional faint dark spots along the midline, and the anal plate is divided. Adults 18 - 30 inches (46 - 76 cm)

Habitat:

City park with ponds and plenty of waterline shrubs and other cover

Notes:

This is consistently the first species I see in Oklahoma each Spring. It's usually found in March, when the days begin to warm up a little. Almost all the Graham's I've seen in the Tulsa, OK, area have been scabby around the face, with one even missing an eye due to the ocular scale being funky and scabbed over.
