Description:

Medium wading bird, iridescent bronze-brown overall, thin band of white feathers around bare red face, long, down curved bill.

Habitat:

Fresh-water pond near Great Salt Lake.

Notes:

Two individuals sighted.

Migratory species typically not found this far north of its wintering range.

Species ID Suggestions

This species is abundant in warmer months in this area. These two individuals apparently did not migrate which occurs in late September.
