Description:
I was surprised to find this small Humminbird perched on a snag in one of the wetland ponds. Orange-brown body and tail with darker wings. Neck and the upper breast was iridescent bright orange to golden yellow and turning black when it looked away. Slender and almost straight bill.
Habitat:
Spotted in a wetland at Flaming Geyser State Park near the Green River in western Washington.
Notes:
Fun fact from Wikipedia: These birds are known for their extraordinary flight skills, flying 2,000 mi (3,200 km) during their migratory transits. It is one of seven species in the genus Selasphorus.
