Three stages of the leaf beetle seen here http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/10844695
Awesome to have them all in one shot (even though placed by you). Well done!
No Karen. This proximity is coincidental. The eggs were placed there by me to picture them with the two beetles and larvae.
Awesome series! Is she brooding her eggs? If she is this would be a great one to add to the Brooding Behavior mission!
FoTony. All the images have been re loaded and I hope you have better luck now.
You could go n TV with the weather man and give beetle forecasts. that other 'flickr' shot is pretty spectacular too http://www.flickr.com/photos/49029566@N03/4702625892/in/photostream/lightbox/
I will load #2 again and maybe that will help. argybee, I have seen thousands of leaf beetles washed up on Westernport bay, off Grantville, all drowned, in about 2000. I anticipate this again.
That flickr image is amazing ! Hard to believe it's not a setup.
Could be, whatever I try it just won't work. But if it shows on your computer it must be ok. Thanks for the support.
Each atomaria has dozens of pupae in the leaf litter now. I expect a huge explosion of these by summer end. Some areas have extensive predation by wasps (Lillydale Lake) and leaf larvae are immobilized!!! Concerning plagueing, check this... http://www.flickr.com/photos/49029566@N03/4701976281/in/photostream/
Pics are showing here FoTony. It's probably a caching and internet lag problem. Click reload. Yeah we went searching yesterday and I remember thinking atomaria is not around although it was common a few weeks ago.
You could collect a bucket full of these in Eastfield park, but almost no P. atomaria here. Interesting. The yellow box has tiny pale leaves and seem to be favored. There's also extensive galling here, which leaf beetles mimic.
Excellent pics martin. These beetles are having a fantastic season aren't they
