In the southern Missouri Ozark woods.

Brian: totally meant to put vole, not mole! I actually just corrected it before seeing your comment, but thanks for pointing that out. I was between prairie, meadow, or woodland vole, as those are the 3 possible species in that area. I remember I was having a lot of trouble IDing it (as I haven't had much small mammal experience) and don't recall if I came to any tentative conclusion or not.
I'm not much of a mammal guy but that is definitely not a mole (Scalopus aquaticus). It might be a vole, which is a rodent (moles are insectivores).
