Field Notes

Description:

Small, delicate brown spider with a conspicuous dark "fiddle" marking in the cephalothorax.

Habitat:

Dark places suit this spider. This one was found in a coffee cup in the cupboard of a camp kitchen.

Notes:

Venom from the bite of this spider has a necrotising effect on tissue, resulting on skin and muscle being destroyed. It is not uncommon for a bite from this spider to leave a concaved scar on its victim.
