Description:

A series of microscope photographs of red spotted Jezebel wing featuring the colored wing scales.

Habitat:

A scarce summer butterfly frequenting flowering trees and mistletoe.

Notes:

This insect has been captive bred (by myself) and is a well known visitor to fragrant flowering trees in Victoria during December and January.

I bred about 100 of these this year from eggs found on mistletoe ;) Myema quandang http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amyema_quandang When left to their own, most of these are predated by tiny wasps :( http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/16587300

This was taken with a toy electronic microscope attachment on the computer. It magnifies 10x, 60x and 200x and those are the first three pics. DOF is poor but not bad for $50 (occasionally sold by Aldi)
