Spectacular old tree! We planted around 100 trees last year, including a few oaks - red, white, sawtooth & burr. They are all only 12 - 15' tall so we are unlikely to see any kind of grandeur from them in our lifetime but I like to think that people in 100 years will appreciate them - unless of course our land is a sub-division by then!

It's called Christian the Fifth's Oak - and its over 1,7m in diameter. It is so called because the danish king (Christian) was out fox hunting on oct. 19 1698, and had caught a red deer by this tree. The deer gored him with its antlers, and he died 6 months later from the wounds. The tree is very much alive, and shows no signs of rot yet - I have occasionationaly spotted a raven in this tree, otherwise its just normal smaller birds
