Field Notes

Description:

1 - 2 cm insect in the order Hemiptera. Wing covers are a shiny metallic blue/green color. Legs, eyes and antennae are bright red.

Habitat:

Found in the rain forests of the Loreto district in Peru. They can be found on the leave and branches of low shrubs and trees.

Notes:

Bright colors warn would-be predators of its noxious odor and pungent taste.

What about Rufomarginata? There is a whole group called Edessa rufomarginata (group) which includes several ssp. Rufomarginata is quite common in the neotropical rainforest.
