Field Notes

Description:

The first two pictures show males (one with a Chiffchaff) while the others are females

Habitat:

river valley

Notes:

Karen, I have added this to your mission as one of the pictures shows a small representation of how different bird species gather together with a common interest, in this case catching insects for food. This happens particularly in winter when birds form large mixed flocks and congregate near food and water. There were many examples in this valley with many species hawking for insects.

Thanks for the info Malcolm, this is a welcome addition to the mission. We also have large mixed flocks here & occasionally I see them gang up to mob bigger birds especially the crows especially in breeding season! Hopefully I will be able to get a few photos of the behavior in the spring.
