Field Notes

Description:

This is a nymph of a (palm?) planthopper possibly from the Lophopidae family. See a similar form here http://www1.dpi.nsw.gov.au/keys/fulgor/indo/species/zlobulat.htm

Habitat:

This spotting on a young coconut tree (Cocos nucifera) in a large semi-urban yard/garden adjacent to a disturbed remnant patch of forest.

Notes:

I frequently see individuals of these nymphs and presumed adults of the same species of planthopper on immature coconut palms in my yard.

Amazing spotting Scott! I thought they were long antennae but then I realized where the eyes were.
It is a shame that we can't see all pictures posted here, and sometimes we miss a beauty like this. Congrats Scott, it is an awesome photo of an awesome insect.
